Lesson notes

A strong essay answers the question directly, develops relevant points and follows a clear structure. Before writing, identify the topic, purpose, audience and required format. Spend a few minutes brainstorming and arranging points in a logical order. A typical essay has an introduction, body paragraphs and conclusion. Each body paragraph should develop one main idea, supported by explanation, examples or details. Use linking expressions such as first, furthermore, however and consequently accurately. Leave time to check grammar, spelling, punctuation and paragraphing.
